What Are The Most Popular Online Poker Games?

There are different variations of poker games. Poker is getting more and more popular each day. In recent years, there has been an explosion of online casinos more than ever before as well as more casinos that we go in to visit.

Texas Hold’Em

The most popular version of poker today is Texas Hold’em. Every casino or website you visit, Texas Hold’em will be played. It consists of each player being dealt two cards face down. These are called the hole cards. Then 3 cards will be dealt which are placed on the table, face up. This is called the flop. The next card is called the turn which is also placed face up on the table next to the flop. The final card dealt is again placed face up next to the other cards there. The aim of the game is to make the best hand with five cards.

Seven Card Stud

Before the explosion of Texas Hold’em, the main game was Stud Poker. A lot of old school poker players still prefer to play this version. Stud Poker is for the more experienced players, as it takes a lot of math and skill to succeed in this game. This is the game usually seen in the old western movies. It can be played with either five cards or seven cards. Seven cards being the preferred game. Each player is dealt two cards facing down and one card facing up. The player with the lowest face up card starts the betting. Three more cards are dealt face up to each player. And the last card dealt to each player is face down. The player who can make the best five card hand wins.

Omaha

This poker game is rapidly becoming more and more popular. It has the same rules and play as Texas Hold’em. The difference is that four cards in the hole are dealt to all players instead of two cards. You still have to make the best five-card hand that you can, but are only able to use two of the hole cards out of the four that were dealt to you.

Razz

Razz poker is the same as Seven Card Stud poker. The difference in this game is that players are aiming to play the lowest hand in the game. Players are still dealt the same cards as stud poker. The player with the highest first face up card has to bet first. Razz usually has fixed betting limits.

When Poker Was First Played

It is reported that the first game of poker was played in Louisiana in 1829. Four players played with a card deck consisting of twenty cards. The game soon spread across the country. It wasn’t long after this that the fifty two deck of cards was introduced. This enabled additional hands and skills to be played. It became a very popular pastime, especially among men. Different variations came about during the American civil war. Five card stud was the most popular. Over the centuries more and more variations have been created right up to where we are today. Since the beginning of the twenty first century, millions of people around the globe now have access to the internet. They are able to play almost anyone they like regardless of where they are in the world.
